Barcelona want to improve and extend Sergi Roberto’s contract at the club, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The La Liga champions are planning a raft of contract extensions, with the high-profile quartet of Leo Messi, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Marc-Andre ter Stegen all in line for new deals.
However, they are also looking to tie down Sergi Roberto, who has established himself as a key first-team player at right-back following the departure of Dani Alves earlier this year.
The rise of Sergi Roberto is one of the best stories in Barça’s recent history. Ever since earning first team promotion four years ago, he struggled to find his place on the team, and the pressure of being the next great midfielder to come out of the club’s youth system didn’t help. But with the arrival of Luis Enrique, Roberto became to gain confidence, and became a key member of the squad last season because of his ability to perform well in different positions.
Thanks to Dani Alves’ departure, he became the starting right-back and has played fantastic football in that position, and he’s set to get paid as an undisputed starter. Well deserved, Sergi.
