The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has confirmed the termination of Danny Blind as manager.
Blind was appointed as manager midway through their qualification for Euro 2016, replacing Guus Hiddink.
Netherlands’ 2-0 loss to Bulgaria, left their chances of qualifying for World Cup 2018 hanging in the balance.
Blind admitted his decision to start De Ligt, 17, in defence was a mistake and would consider his future.
A decision KNVB has made for him.
“We have respect for what Danny did for us and for the team during his tenure,” KNVB director Jean Paul Decossaux said in a statement.
“But because the sporting results are unfortunately disappointing, and because qualifying for the World Cup in Russia is now in difficulty, we unfortunately feel forced to relieve him.”
