Andrea Pirlo Likely To Join Antonio Conte’s Chelsea Coaching Staff Next Season- Ray Wilkins

Antonio Conte is on the hunt for an Italian coach to join his staff to replace Steve Holland, who has joined England, according to the Daily Mail.

Hiring an Italian will allow the Chelsea boss to continue conducting meetings in his own language with his fellow coaches – Andrea Pirlo has been reportedly linked.

The AC Milan and Juventus legend is still playing in Major League Soccer with New York City FC, where he played alongside Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, but is now 37 and expected to retire soon.

Conte and Pirlo were famously united in Turin after many had written off the Italy legend.

Conte brought in the midfielder from rivals Milan in 2011 and became the Old Lady’s most important player.

Pirlo was pictured watching a session at Chelsea’s Cobham training base in December.

And Wilkins, who coached under Italian managers Gianluca Vialli and Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge, believes Pirlo is top of Conte’s list to replace Holland ahead of next season.

‘I know for a fact he has been around Stamford Bridge on a number of occasions this year, Wilkins told talkSPORT.

‘He’s the one that Antonio Conte would like. He managed him at Juventus until he was 34.

‘He is the one he will want to come in [to replace Holland].’
