Naby Keita’s signing for Liverpool is “really good news” says Jurgen Klopp.
“I would have preferred him this season,” Klopp said.
“He is the player of the league (in Germany) last year. He has been doing it for two or three years in different leagues. Sometimes you have to wait for really good things.
“I have lots of contacts in Germany, and I’ve never had so many congratulations than after we signed him.”
‘Last year together with Thiago Alcantara they were the best in the league. He’s done that in different leagues too.’
Liverpool could be in need of quality in midfield next season due to doubts over Emre Can’s future, with the 23-year-old in the final year of his contract.
Keita looks ready-made to replace Can in that defensive midfield role if he does leave, but can also operate further forward if needed.
