Barcelona are seriously considering signing Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil in January, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The La Liga leaders want to reinforce their squad by bringing in an attacking midfielder in January and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who they unsuccessfully tried to sign last summer, is their No 1 target.
Barca will make one last attempt to sign the Brazilian, even though Liverpool remain insistent that they do not want to sell him.
Senior Barca figures have lined up alternatives to the 25-year-old and one of those who is best placed to move to the Camp Nou is Ozil.
The Germany playmaker would not be cup tied for the Champions League and would be available for an affordable fee, given that he is out of contract at the Emirates in June.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca believe the 29-year-old would cost around €20m in January. As such, they are seriously considering securing his services when the transfer window re-opens.
Mundo Deportivo adds that Barca also admire PSG’s Angel Di Maria, Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and the Spurs duo of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, but believe it would be difficult to land either one of this quartet in January.
