Andres Iniesta is hopeful that Javier Mascherano will stay put at Barcelona despite the Argentine being linked with a move away from the Camp Nou in January.
Mascherano has struggled for game time this season and is rumoured to be considering his options with a starting place for Argentina at the World Cup under threat.
Iniesta said, via Sport: “No, we’re not resigned to losing him because it’s not official and we’ve not heard from his mouth that he’s leaving. Javi’s still an important player for us. I would like him to stay.”
“He’s important for the group. We will see what happens but each person tries to decide what’s best for themselves, without damaging the club. After all the years he’s spent here, you can’t question the feeling he has for Barca.”
