Barcelona have confirmed the extent of Samuel Umtiti’s hamstring injury and it’s bad news for the team with the defender out for approximately eight weeks.
That means Samuel I tito will not play again in 2017, will miss El Clasico and January’s fixtures too.
Umtiti pulled up on the touchline as he competed for the ball with Iago Aspas in Barca’s 2-2 La Liga draw against Celta at Camp Nou.
As Aspas raced away, eventually setting up Maxi Gomez for his side’s equalising goal, Umtiti signalled to the bench that he would be unable to continue.
Barcelona are also without Javier Mascherano right now and he is not expected back until mid-December.
Until then Ernesto Valverde will look to Gerard Pique and Thomas Vermaelen in central defence, although he could also use Barca B’s David Costas who featured in the Copa del Rey second leg win.
