‘Deadpool 2’ Nabs a Villain, Plus: Everything We Know About the Superhero Sequel So Far

The Strain

Deadpool 2 is expected to begin filming very soon. What do we know about the sequel so far?

Who is the villain?

Jack Kesy has been cast as a “major villain” in the movie, according to Deadline. Kesy made a memorable impression on TV’s The Strain (top) as a goth rock star, though it’s not yet been confirmed which villain he’ll be portraying in the Deadpool sequel.

Rumor has it that he’ll play Black Tom, a mutant from Ireland with an international criminal record. In the Marvel comic books, Black Tom has experienced multiple confrontations with both Deadpool and Cable.

Who is returning?

Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as the wisecracking mutant Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. Brianna Hildebrand is expected to make an appearance as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, along with Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus.

Leslie Uggams will once again portray Wade’s funny, foul-mouthed roommate Blind Al, and Karan Soni will return as taxi driver Dopinder. Morena Baccarin may return as Vanessa, Wade’s romantic interest.

Who are the new characters?

Josh Brolin will play Cable, a time-traveling mutant and Deadpool’s expected ally. Zazie Beetz (TV’s Atlanta) has been tapped as Domino, a mutant known for her marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat skills; she’s also been a partner and love interest of Cable.

Who will be directing?

After Deadpool director Tim Miller departed last October, he was soon replaced by David Leitch (John Wick).

When will filming begin?

Production is expected to get underway in June.

What is it about?

Good question! No official plot or premise has been revealed. Based on the casting of Cable and Domino, however, it’s safe to assume that they’ll play major roles in the sequel. It’s been described as a solo movie, though, not a team-up between Cable and Deadpool, as in the beloved comic book series.

When can we see it in theaters?

Deadpool 2 is set for theatrical release on June 1, 2018.
