There’s a lot that separates Dwayne Johnson from most other superstars. Sure, he’s a giant man who has muscles that most of us don’t even know exist. Sure, he balances humor and action with perfect ease. Sure, he can sing on top of everything else. But another unique aspect of Johnson is how open he is about his career and possible future projects.
Most celebs clam up about deals in the works, but Johnson has a very open relationship with his audience on social media and will often express his desires to make things that aren’t actually happening yet. There’s been Black Adam for DC Comics, Doc Savage for director Shane Black, and Jungle Cruise for Disney.
Those first two still haven’t become official projects yet, but now, nearly two years after first mentioning it, the last one has.
Disney has greenlit the project for Johnson to star in and produce. It’ll be inspired by the classic Disney ride, which is a winding tour through various exotic rivers from around the world. We don’t know much about plot yet, but it’s said to be set in the 1920s. Considering Disney’s history with turning theme park rides into movies, it’s a pretty safe bet there’s going to be way more mythology and mystery involved than what you get on the actual ride. It does not currently have a director, but given how in demand Johnson is, we have little doubt he’ll have any trouble attracting one.
