Edgar Wright is known for horror and genre movies like the Shaun of the Dead trilogy and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but his more straightforward action-heist pic Baby Driver got rave reviews when it premiered at SXSW earlier this year. In it, Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars) plays Baby, a young yet top-notch getaway driver who wants to leave his shady profession behind when he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James). But as we know from most typical heist action movies, there’s always that One Last Job, and Baby’s comes care of a crime boss played by Kevin Spacey. What’s not so typical of this particular heist movie is Wright’s take on it, which involves crazy car chases, breaking the fourth wall and a unique way of using diegetic music (Baby must constantly listen to his headphones to drown out a nasty case of tinnitis and concentrate on his driving).
In this clip, the cast explains more about who Baby is and what’s behind the plot of this movie that had audiences buzzing. Check it out and then mark your calendar for June 28 as it roars into a theater near you.
