Exclusive: ‘La La Land’ Damien Chazelle’s Top 10 L.A. Movies

The new film La La Land is very much defined by its love of Los Angeles and all of the dreamers that call it home. With the film opening Friday in select theaters (tickets are on sale here at Fandango), we reached out to La La Land writer-director Damien Chazelle to get his list of essential Los Angeles-set movies, and the results include a group that features everything from Boogie Nights to Chinatown to Heat, all of which topped his list in that order.

“Countless movies have shot in Los Angeles, and in many of them the city emerges as a character in its own right: sometimes beautiful, sometimes ominous, always fascinating,” Chazelle said. “I picked the following great L.A. movies because each captures a distinct time, place and feeling in Southern California history and culture, and each reminds me of why I love movies in the first place.

Check out Chazelle’s full top 10 list below, and note that many of these titles are now available to watch on FandangoNOW via a special playlist specifically put together to highlight Chazelle’s picks and more.
