“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
That’s the official synopsis for Blade Runner 2049, the Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi film about a dystopian future where Replicants — synthetic beings that are nearly identical to their human creators — begin trying to live amongst humans.
As you can see from the first teaser trailer for the film, Officer K does indeed find Deckard. And considering how much time Gosling spends walking around on his own (and what Ryan Gosling told us), their meeting probably doesn’t just involve quiet conversation and a cup of tea.
Maybe Deckard isn’t interested in helping K with what he’s uncovered. Maybe K needs to retire Deckard for good. We’ll have to find out when it hits theaters on October 6, 2017.
