Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, reunites the two actors in a screen version of the August Wilson play for which they both won Tonys in 2010. Washington plays a former baseball player who once had a rising career, but now works as a garbage collector in 1950s Pittsburgh. His relationship with his wife (Davis) and children is strained, especially when he refuses to let one son play college football. Washington directs the movie, which opens Christmas Day, December 25.
In this week’s episode, Alicia Malone shows us why the movie is a likely Oscar contender (as of this writing both stars were nominated for Golden Globe awards). She also spotlights Neruda, the biopic-drama about the Chilean poet starring Gael Garcia Bernal as an inspector trying to track the elusive writer down, and gives us her recommendations for new releases on VOD.
