Man Sues Woman for Texting on Their First Date During ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’; James Gunn Comments

Talk about bad dating etiquette!

We’re big proponents of the theatrical experience. There’s nothing quite like watching a movie, whether it be a highly anticipated blockbuster or a little-heralded indie, on a big screen with fellow enthusiasts.

It’s always somewhat dismaying, therefore, when someone disturbs that experience. But would you consider filing a lawsuit against the offender?

That’s what happened recently in Texas. According to Statesman, a 37-year-old man met a 35-year-old woman online and they decided to go on their first date at a 3D screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (above). The man later described it “kind of a first date from Hell.”

The woman began texting about 15 minutes after the movie began and then kept on texting, activating her phone perhaps 10-20 times in the next 15 minutes. He says he asked her to stop; when she refused, he suggested she step outside.

She did and never returned, thereby abandoning him, since they had traveled to the theater in her car. Later he asked her to reimburse him for the price of the movie ticket but she refused, leading to him filing a claim against her for $17.31. The woman claims she texted a friend two or three times: “It wasn’t like constant texting.”

The petition highlights the principle involved, describing the woman’s actions as “a threat to civilized society.” Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.director James Gunn commented on the news story via social media.

Why stop at suing? She deserves jail time! https://t.co/c41MWGz74M

Too bad more movie dates can’t go more happily, like the one experienced by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in La La Land (at top).
