John Heard: Actor John Heard (above in Steel City), who established himself with a string of fine performances in the late 1970s and 1980s before becoming immortal as a frazzled father in Home Alone, has passed away. He was 72. Heard saw early success with memorable star turns in Chilly Scenes of Winter, Heart Beat, Cat People and C.H.U.D., then transitioned to enlivening films and TV shows with dynamic supporting roles, as in Big (watch clip below). Baby Driver

Gore: Kevin Spacey (Baby Driver, above) will portray famed author Gore Vidal in a biographical drama for Netflix. Titled Gore, the movie is set during the 1980s; Michael Hoffman will direct. Born in 1925, Vidal began publishing novels in the 1940s and gained wider fame after he turned to writing popular historical fictional and satirical novels in the 1970s; he also became known for his fiery public debates with the likes of William F. Buckley Jr. [Variety]

Creed 2: Sylvester Stallone says he has completed the first draft of a screenplay for a sequel to Creed, hinting again that Ivan Drago, a Russian boxer introduced in Rocky IV, will return. Ryan Coogler and Aaron Covington wrote the script for the original, based on characters created by Stallone. It’s not known to what extent Coogler will now be involved with the sequel; he’s been busy directing Black Panther lately. [Instagram]
