News Briefs: ‘Big Short’ Director to Helm Dick Cheney Movie

Dick Cheney: Adam McKay (The Big Short) will direct a drama about Dick Cheney, former U.S. vice president. McKay has already completed writing the screenplay and hopes to begin shooting by springtime next year, aiming for theatrical release in late 2017. McKay says: “I’ve always found Cheney fascinating… once we started digging I was astounded at how much he had shaped modern America’s place in the world and how shocking the methods were by which he gained his power.” [Deadline]


Independent Spirit Awards: Independent dramas Moonlight (above), American Honey and Jackie each received Independent Spirit Award nominations for Best Feature and Director, as well as other awards. Chronic and Manchester by the Sea were the other nominees for best feature. The awards show will be broadcast on February 25. [Indiewire]

The Comedian Trailer: Robert De Niro stars in The Comedian as an aging comic who starts a new relationship with Leslie Mann at the same time he enjoys a surprising resurgence in his career.
