See the New ‘Star Wars’ Planet That Was Directly Inspired by Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’

Earlier this month we had a chance to sit down with Rogue One: A Star Wars Storydirector Gareth Edwards and we asked him for some of the films that inspired this new chapter in the Star Wars series.

“Films that I used in there that got high score were Apocalypse Now; a little of Thin Red Line, and there’s a planet in our film that’s very much inspired by Alien,” he said. “Also Blade Runner, THX-1138 and of course the original Star Wars.”

Fans on the lookout for nods to these aforementioned films will spot some Blade Runner similarities very early on, and the Apocalypse Now and Thin Red Line stuff will filter in towards the end. When it comes to Alien, though, Edwards wasn’t kidding. There is an entire planet in Rogue One that looks as if it were ripped right out of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film, and it’s called Eadu.

Here is what Eadu looks like in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

And here is what the planet eventually named LV-426 looks like in the original Alien.

We won’t go into specifics as to the events that take place on Eadu because, well, spoilers, but it’s cool to see just how these old-school influences found their way into the new Star Wars movie.

Watch more of our interviews with the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story below. The film officially lands in theaters on December 16.
