BetterYou magnesium flakes shown to ease restless legs syndrome

July 10, 2017

An Essex mum of three suffering from restless legs syndrome (RLS) can finally share a bed with her husband again thanks to a natural Magnesium Flake remedy, which featured on the ‘Secrets of Sleep’ (More4, 5 July).

Rebecca Miedzwiedz, aged 33, has suffered with RLS (aka Willis-Ekbom disease – a common condition of the nervous system that causes an overwhelming, irresistible urge to move the legs) for almost a decade, drastically impacting on her quality of life and relationships.

However, the nursing practitioner found relief from her symptoms after experts on the TV programme suggested that she incorporate transdermal (through the skin) magnesium into her pre-bedtime routine.

“After a 20-minute soak in a Magnesium Flake bath I really notice the benefit after” says Rebecca, who in the programme manages to achieve an almost full night’s sleep with her husband after two years of sleeping in separate beds due to the severity of her RLS.

I’m pleased to say that after using the Magnesium Flakes and a daily spray, I have seen a significant improvement. I’m getting a good night’s sleep, which means I’m much happier during the day and my legs are not a painful. I can now comfortably sit and watch a film with my family.”

“I’d urge anyone who suffers RLS to try BetterYou’s magnesium products… they have made a huge difference to my life.”

Research carried out by the Willis-Ekbom Foundation showed that around a third of patients and a third of spouses/partners admit sleeping in a separate bed due to RLS.

RLS-UK report that as many as 1 in 10 people are affected by RLS at some point in their life and 1 in 4 people diagnosed with RLS experience sleep disturbance.

NHS Choices say that women are twice as likely to develop restless legs syndrome than men. It’s also more common in middle age, although the symptoms can develop at any age, including childhood, where RLS is often wrongly identified as ‘growing pains’. About one in five pregnant women also develop the condition, usually in the third trimester and often continue to experience symptoms after childbirth.

Multiple published trials have linked magnesium deficiency to RLS. The Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine found that when the body’s magnesium levels are too low, it makes it harder to stay asleep.

A clinical trial by Cardiff University showed how well magnesium is absorbed through the skin. A further study by Watkins & Josling showed that BetterYou Magnesium can elevate cellular magnesium levels up to five times faster than traditional tablets or capsules.

Without magnesium our bodies are less supple, and deficiency is linked with many health issues including migraines, anxiety, depression and extreme fatigue. A magnesium rich bath or a few body sprays after a shower will leave you feeling relaxed as well as effectively replenishing your body’s levels.

BetterYou MagnesiumOil Sprays and Bath Flakes are available from Holland and Barratt, betteryou.com and all good health stores.
